Use this prayer through the different postures of worship in the Psalms to help your congregation worship freely this week.
Please pray aloud:
O God, teach my church to worship like the Psalms!
Teach us to stand in reverence and silence when we come into your holy place. You are the Most High King, deserving of honor.
Teach us to bow down in fear before your power, and to kneel in surrender before your glory.
Teach us to lift our hands in praise, and to bless your name with outstretched arms, like incense rising before you.
Teach us to clap our hands—all people—because you have done great things for us and you have made us glad.
Teach us to shout for joy because of your victory in Christ. Open our lips, Lord, and our mouths will declare your praise. We will not be silent!
Teach us to make a joyful noise for you the rock of our salvation. Free us to worship you with every instrument available to us! With strings, percussion, and horns.
Teach us to dance with freedom, to move in celebration for all you have done.
To our worship, give us freedom, and not fear. Give us also order, and not disorder. Forgive us, if we are ever silent because we want to please others more than we want to please you. As you teach us to pray, Lord, teach us also to worship!
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
