Use this prayer to prepare the hearts and minds of your guests to have a great experience this Sunday at your church!

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Sovereign Lord, I come to you now praying for our new guests on Sunday morning.

Did your Spirit not lead Simeon to the temple to meet Jesus? Do it again, this Sunday, God! Even now, bring our church to the hearts and minds of people who have never been through our doors. If they’ve driven by our church a hundred times or someone invited them a hundred times, make this Sunday the Sunday they say “yes” and join us.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As they wake up, let them feel refreshed and have plenty of time to get ready. Even if they can’t explain why, let them feel an eagerness and a tug on their heart to come.

As they drive to our church and pull into our parking lot, give them a calm spirit. Ease any anxiety they have about where to park or where to walk. Send your holy angels to guard their way and protect them from all distractions or weapons of the evil one.

As they walk through our front doors, help our greeters meet them with a smile and a hello, but to not be too overbearing. Give our guests peace and an assuredness as they navigate our lobby and make their way to the sanctuary.

Did your Spirit not lead Simeon to the temple to meet Jesus? Do it again, this Sunday, God!
—Pray for Your Church

As they sit in our seats, let your Holy Spirit wash over them and make them feel at home, even if they can’t put their finger on why. Let them feel a sense of belonging regardless of their history or culture. If they’re asking themselves questions like “How long is the service?” or “What is expected of me?”, give them those answers quickly.

As the service begins, let them quickly go from observing to participating. Fill their hearts with joy, their mouths with song, and their ears with your living Word. If they’re believers looking for a new church home, we would be honored if they would make our church their home. If they’re non–believers looking into faith, use this Sunday to bring them that faith in you, that they too may be saved!

Finally, God, I pray for us. Show us what we can change about our environment to make our guests feel more welcome and at ease. We can grow blind to what’s familiar, Lord, so show us what guests notice. What confuses them? Where are they uncomfortable in our building? Whether it’s better signage, better lighting, a new layout, or less clutter, open our eyes, Lord. Take away every hurdle. Make us as compelling as possible. That every guest returns, and every returning guest becomes a part of your family of faith.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Some of the Scripture used in today’s prayer:
