Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Great and gracious Lord, I come to you now praying for the Vacation Bible School planning at my church.

So often my prayers are about immediate and urgent things that demand my attention, but you are the God who makes known the end from the beginning; you work in the future even as you work today. So God, come make our VBS great this year!

Thank you for the amazing leaders and volunteers who are spending unseen hours planning and preparing. In a very real way, bless them for being a blessing, Lord. Fill them with an enthusiasm and joy for this great task. Give them a sense of pace, doing a little bit at a time instead of trying to do it all at once. Take away any anxiety or stress as they prepare. Give them a sense of teamwork and camaraderie as they serve together. And let them know that you have created them to do this good work.

Bless their recruitment efforts, Lord. Move in the hearts and minds of our people with your Spirit, to see the need, be inspired by the opportunity, and to step up and serve. Young or old, working or retired, strong or weak, send workers into your harvest. If they need to rearrange their weekday schedule or take a couple vacation days to be able to serve at VBS, show them how they are equipped for such a time as this.

Build your kingdom through our VBS this year!

Give our VBS leaders great decorating ideas—decorations that will capture the hearts and minds of the kids. Help them see ways to improve those designs to make them more durable, or more affordable, or more compelling. Help them create an environment that readies the hearts of the kids to hear your gospel.

Give our VBS leaders great craft ideas—crafts that excite and teach. Crafts that kids will use and keep beyond the moment to remember what they learn at VBS. If there’s a way to modify the craft to make it more affordable or less messy, give our volunteers that insight. Help them keep a clean and organized inventory as they collect glue sticks or beads or markers.

Give our VBS leaders great music ideas—music that will move our kids to praise. Nothing is too small for your care, Lord. So if it’s a new song or a new set of motions or a new group of singers, make it known. Move our kids to sing and make music in their hearts for you and your glory. Doesn’t your Word say you have ordained praise from the lips of children? Include our kids in your glory!

Give our VBS leaders great teaching ideas—teaching that takes your big story and disseminates it down to the right ideas said in the right way so that kids discover who you are, who you made them to be, and how much you love them in Christ. Whether kids know you or have never heard, let all of them be captivated by your message.

Finally, God, bring the children. Fill us to overflowing. As registrations go out, let it especially go out to the families in our community who do not have a church home, or do not know you, that they may connect with us and connect with you. Use our VBS this year to help new families in our neighborhood discover the full and abundant life you have for them in Jesus.

Build your kingdom through our VBS this year!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
