A prayer for God to call and raise up young men within your church to become the pastors who will lead it in the future.
Quick Prayer
Please pray aloud: Lord, raise up future pastors from my church!
Send out your Spirit now and call young boys and young men in my church to the noble task of being a pastor. Fill them with a heart and a desire to proclaim the good news, to make disciples, to baptize, to lead the church, and to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Men who love you, who love the gospel, and who love people. Men who love your Word. Men who love to pray. Men who have the character, lifestyle, and relationships your Word commands for pastors.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Full Prayer
Please pray aloud: Lord, your Son urged us to pray for workers in the harvest. But I don’t just pray for this harvest, God, I pray for workers in the next season’s harvest. And in the harvest every season after that.
Lord, raise up future pastors from my church!
I hear the statistics of closing churches, God. I hear of more pastors retiring and fewer pastors graduating. But I will not give way to fear, Lord. I believe Your Word’s promise to give my church shepherds after your own heart who will lead us with knowledge and understanding.

Do again like you did with Samuel when he was a young boy and touch the heart of a child to become a pastor.
Do again like you did with Isaiah and anoint a young man to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoner, and recovery of sight for the blind.
Do again like you did with Paul and Barnabas, and set aside young men you are calling on your mission to save the world.
Do again like you did with Jeremiah and start a fire to preach in the bones of young men in my church.
Do it again, Lord, in our time, in our day, with our people!
And then, God, give these young men the courage and vision to accept this high calling. Help them plan and live their lives today in order to make this future a reality. Surround them with the counsel and resources they need so they can be ordained into the pastoral office. And help my church disciple and care for them so they are ready to live out the calling they have received.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
