Use this prayer to guide and bless the people in your church whom God has given the calling—and gift—of teaching.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, I lift up the teachers in my church.

Whether they teach in church, in a school, in a business, or in a home, make them great teachers, Lord! Give them a passion to teach. Help them not only understand the content they teach, but how to make it understandable. Help them manage their classrooms—and themselves—well. Pour out your gift of teaching on the teachers in my church, Lord!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, I lift up the teachers in my church. Whether they teach in church, in a school, in a business, or in a home, make them great teachers, Lord!

Specifically, Lord, I pray for… Take a moment to name any of the teachers in your church that are on your mind.

Your Word says wisdom and knowledge are more precious than gold, and that we should seek insight and gain instruction. But good instruction can only come from good instructors, God. Just like good counsel comes from good counselors and good guidance from good guides. So make every teacher among us like Jesus, the “good teacher”.

Give our teachers a passion to teach. Beyond mere enthusiasm, give them the kind of passion that sacrifices—and even suffers—for what is good. Let the passion translate into a daily joy as they enter the classroom. Remind them in those moments you have called them to this high and noble task of shaping our future.

…make every teacher among us like Jesus, the “good teacher”.

Help our teachers understand the content they’re teaching, both as an overall concept, but also down to the nuanced details. Give them insight into how to make the complicated simple, and the creativity to make the confusing memorable.

Help our teachers manage their classrooms well. To balance the classroom as a whole, but to also see each individual student as you have uniquely created them. Show them how to manage different personalities and learning styles. Give them patience when students have varying levels of interest in a topic. Remind them that every student is your creation, full of purpose and hope, and they get to play a role in shaping their future.

Help our teachers manage their own health well. From the classroom to their personal life, help them take the necessary steps to serve with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. If there are tools or teaching methods they can use to improve as teachers, equip them. If there is a skill they can develop to improve as teachers, show them. If there is a lifestyle change they can make to improve as teachers, compel them.

Pour out your gift of teaching on the teachers in my church, Lord!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
