Prayer for More Baptisms

Use this prayer to remove the barriers people have about baptism so more people are baptized at your church.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
God, I pray for more baptisms at my church!

If anyone in my church hasn’t been baptized because they don’t see the importance, or because they don’t have all of their questions about you answered yet, or because they think their sin is too great, or because of any human limitation, remove those barriers, God. Like a deer panting for streams in the desert, make their souls long for you until they find relief in your waters.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please pray aloud:
God, I pray for more baptisms at my church!

If anyone in my church hasn’t been baptized because they don’t see the importance, show them the promises of baptism. Your promise to wash our sins in the water of baptism. Your promise to clothe us with the righteousness of Christ in baptism. Your promise to bury our sins and raise us to new life in the waters of baptism. Show them Christ’s command to be baptized and convict them to action by your Holy Spirit.

If anyone in my church hasn’t been baptized because they don’t have all of their questions about you answered yet, show them they know enough—that they are a sinner for whom Christ died and rose again that they may live a new life in him. Show them how baptism is the beginning of their journey, not the conclusion. Baptism is a first step, not a final step.

If anyone in my church hasn’t been baptized because they think their sin is too great, show them it’s their very sin that qualifies them for baptism. Show them your grace and mercy are even greater than their sin, and that you call the worst of us to be washed in your waters.

If any haven’t been baptized because of any human limitation, remove that barrier. If they’re nervous about others seeing their baptism, remove that pride. If they think their age or intellect or culture prohibits them, remove that misunderstanding.

But O, God, don’t let anything stop anyone from coming to the waters of baptism! Move by your Spirit and draw ever more and even more people! Like a deer panting for streams in the desert, make their souls long for you until they find relief in your waters.

Is there anything my church is doing that’s preventing baptisms from happening? Is there anything we can do to make baptism easier, or more likely? Show us, God. But God, bring more baptisms upon baptisms to my church, that we may rejoice with the angels of heaven over one sinner who repents.
