Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights
James 1:17

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Good and gracious Father, instead of asking you for something in prayer, on this day I simply want to thank you for my church. I thank you for our building, the people, and even the joys and challenges in this season of ministry. Thank you, Lord, for generously opening your hand to satisfy the desires of my congregation.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Good and gracious Father, instead of asking you for something in prayer, on this day I simply want to thank you for my church. As king David asked, who am I, and who are we, that you should give so generously to us?

I thank you for our building. Our walls and roof, our lights and running water, our furniture and decor. Our space for fellowship, for care, for study, for prayer, and for worship. Our parking lot, our roof, our landscaping. Every good and perfect gift we have is from you, our Father of heavenly lights.

I thank you for the people in our church. Our paid and volunteer staff, and the unique skills and wisdom they bring to our community. For my friends, and for those soon to be my friends. I even thank you for the people who challenge me and for the people who are different than me. Every person is another demonstration of your grace, O God!

Who are we, that you should give so generously to us?
—Pray for Your Church

I thank you for this season my church is in, with all of its joys and challenges. Thank you for what you are teaching us. Thank you for how you are stretching us. Thank you for our difficulties and our comforts. I rejoice in our suffering and weakness, just as I rejoice in our strengths and accomplishments.

Thank you specifically, for…
Name a few of the things or people at your church for which you feel especially thankful.

As the Psalm declares, the eyes of all things look to you, God, and we are no different. On this day I recognize that you have generously opened your hand and abundantly satisfied the desires of my congregation.

Thank you, Lord.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
