Heavenly Father, give my church a united heart to cry out with the Roman centurion—
We do not deserve to have you come to under our roof. You are holy, and perfect in all your ways. Your beauty is blinding. Your wisdom is awesome. Your power is matchless. If the terrifying seraphim hide their eyes from you, who are we that you should come near?
We do not even consider ourselves worthy to come to you. We are utterly sinful, from the time of our birth. We have fallen short of your glory by what we have done, and what we have failed to do. Your Word tells us there is no one who is righteous, not even one. We are unworthy of any goodness you show to us, O God.
But say the word, and your servants will be healed. Yet Lord, we ask that you would give us the mercy and grace you promised us through Christ. See his blood shed for us! Hear the intercession he speaks for us! Bury our sins with him in baptism! Say the word of forgiveness, and your servants will be healed.
