Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Oh God, that you would show your power to my church!

WHAT GOD HAS DONE
In your Word we read of your power to do the supernatural—power to part the seas, to stop the sun, and to rain fire from heaven. You command the lions, you command the storms, you command even the grave—and they obey because none can withstand your matchless and unrivaled power. Every knee bows to you, Almighty God.

But your power is beyond the supernatural, Lord. Who else could arrange the sun and stars? Who else set the seasons? Every living thing is filled with breath and sustained with life by your wisdom and might alone.

Even your Word is filled with power, God—it’s living and active and sharper than any sword, it has the power to penetrate our heart and soul. To give faith. To forgive sins.

WHAT GOD CAN DO
So I join my voice with the Psalmist, bringing my congregation before you now and crying out: Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, and do as you have done before.

Show us your strength, our God, and do as you have done before.
—Pray for Your Church

I pray that our church would serve our community with your power, doing even greater than we could do on our own. That our marriages would be restored by your power, with a union greater than we could ever accomplish on our own. That our sicknesses would be healed by your power. That our rebellious children would honor their parents by your power. That any slander against us would cease by your power.

Even our preaching this Sunday, God. Let word, every pause, every breath in the message be filled and bursting with power—power to comfort every hurting heart, power to convict every hardened heart, power to enflame every cold heart, power to enliven every dead heart.

In any way we can experience your power God, empower us.

We are small and weak, Lord. Forgive us for every thinking otherwise, and for any time we’ve relied on our own meager strength. But let us boast in our weaknesses that your great power might be show among us. That the world would look on what you’re doing in the midst of our church and marvel at what has happened. And may we give no other explanation than it was your power, by your Holy Spirit, at work within us.

Summon your power, God!

Show us your strength, our God!

As you have done before.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
