In this prayer from our series through the phrases “of the Lord”, you’ll pray for your church to know the strength of the Lord.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, come strengthen my church! I suppose only the weak would ask for strength, but I admit we are weak. I’ve seen the underwhelming limits of our power. I’m tired of pretending we’re not tired.

Strengthen us until others look on us and marvel at what you have done in and through us. Strengthen us until what we have accomplished defies logic and explanation. That we may know the joy of saying, “This was only done by the strength of the Lord!”

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, come strengthen my church!

I suppose only the weak would ask for strength, but I admit we are weak. I’ve seen the underwhelming limits of our power. I’m tired of pretending we’re not tired.

We’ve given our strength to practice music and clean floors and cut out decorations for kids ministry. We’ve given our strength to plan calendars and balance budgets and call the wayward and visit the sick. We’ve given our strength to forgive others, to proclaim your gospel, to pursue righteousness.

It is an honor to labor in your fields, master, but we have come to the end of ourselves before we have come to the end of your work. And we are tired. We have worked all day under a relentless sun and our strength is sapped. And there is still so much work to do.

…we have come to the end of ourselves before we have come to the end of our work.
—Pray for Your Church

So I come to you now asking you to give us your strength!

Why tell us you have strength that is above all strength unless you offer it to us? Why tell us you never tire unless you would give it to the tired? Who needs your strength more than you servants? So I call on you now, awesome God—we’ve loved you with all our strength, now help us to love you with all your strength!

Come be the strength of your people, as you have promised. Come renew our strength that we may soar with the wings of an eagle, that we may run and not grow weary and walk and not be faint. Come make our feet like the feet of a deer that treads on the heights. As you strengthened your Son when he prayed before the work of the cross, come strengthen your servants who pray to you now.

Strengthen us until others look on us and marvel at what you have done in and through us. Strengthen us until what we have accomplished defies logic and explanation. That we may know the joy of saying, “This was only done by the strength of the Lord!”

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
