In this prayer from our series through the phrases “of the Lord”, you’ll pray for your church to know the fear of the Lord.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Lord, teach my church to fear you.

I confess that the word “fear” is hard for our modern ears to understand. We have no problem believing you’re a God of love and kindness, that you’re patient or near. We have no problem with the commands to praise you or to love our neighbors. But your Word just as readily  and repeatedly commands us to fear you.

So cut through our culture and our worldview, our pride and our ignorance, and teach us what it means to fear you, God.

And then, teach us to fear you, God, that we may have everything your Word promises will follow.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

And then, teach us to fear you that we may have everything your Word promises will follow—

Teach us to fear you that we may gain the wisdom, the knowledge, the understanding that follows.

Teach us to fear you that we may hate evil and keep your commands. Soften our hearts to receive your instruction and change our ways. Make us like those who consider it a delight to fear your name.

…cut through our culture and our worldview, our pride and our ignorance, and teach us what it means to fear you, God.
—Pray for Your Church

Teach us to fear you until we are filled with a deep reverence and awe for your name.

Teach us to fear you that we may have no lack, as you have promised in your Word. That we will be safe from all harm, restful and satisfied in your shadow.

Teach us to fear you that we may know your mercy from generation to generation. If your Word promises a fountain of life to all who fear you, God, we want to drink deep.

Teach us to fear you that your ear may be attentive to our prayer.

Teach us to fear you that my church may be like your early Church, who enjoyed a time of peace and strength as they feared you, encouraged by the Holy Spirit, and increasing in numbers.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
