Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, I come to you now asking you to protect my church from all slander.
From the beginning, slander has been a tool the Evil One has used to divide and destroy the trust and unity in your kingdom. All quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, gossip, conceit, and disorder follow slander. So protect us, O God, from all language and speech the Enemy may use to destroy your church.
Holy Spirit, inhabit the speech of our church like you inhabit our praise.

Forgive us for the times where we speak negatively about a matter to those who are neither part of the problem nor part of the solution. Help us to see this for the evil that it is, O Lord. I join with the Psalmist and ask with the authority of Jesus’ name, that all slander be silenced in our church! In the hallways, in parking lots, in small groups, cast it out, Lord!
In place of slander, may we do as your Word exhorts us and only speak what is good for building others up. That our words give grace to any who hear it. That we avoid all slander. That everything we speak be wholesome and edifying. Move us to follow the directive of your Son—to speak first to those who give us offense, and only involve other appropriate people if reconciliation cannot be found. Humble the hard and stubborn hearts among us who refuse to acknowledge the sin in their speech, whether gossip or slander or lies.
Holy Spirit, inhabit the speech of our church like you inhabit our praise.
