In this part two of this series of prayers about Scripture, this prayer will help your church honor and spend time in God’s Word.
Quick Prayer
Please pray aloud: Sovereign Lord, make my church honor your Word! We repent of the times we’ve neglected your sacred Scripture or compromised it.
Help us dedicate ourselves to your Word—to hide it in our hearts, to meditate on it day and night, to let it dwell so richly within us that it saturates every thought, guards every conversation, and guides every action.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please pray aloud: Sovereign Lord, make my church honor your Word!
Like King Josiah, we repent of the times we’ve neglected your sacred Scripture and left it unopened, for the times we’ve treated it as common and mundane, and the times that we’ve compromised it. Help us dedicate ourselves to your Word—to hide it in our hearts, to meditate on it day and night, to let it dwell so richly within us that it saturates every thought, guards every conversation, and guides every action.
The Psalmist declares your Word is perfect and refreshes the soul; let it refresh us!
Your Word is trustworthy and gives wisdom; let it teach us!
Your Word is right and brings joy; let it gladden us!
Your Word is radiant and and brings light; let it enlighten us!
Your Word is pure and endures forever; let it sanctify us!
Your Word is firm and entirely righteous; let it strengthen us!
Your Word is more precious than gold and sweeter than honey; let it enrich us!
Tune our ears to hear your wisdom crying out above the din and distractions of our day.

On a practical level, move every person in my church to schedule time in our day to hear your voice; whether first thing in our morning or the last thing in our evening. Cut through all the noise and affections that compete for our attention, Lord and give us a heart attentive your teachings. Tune our ears to hear your wisdom crying out above the din and distractions of our day. Make us discontent with the wisdom of this world and so dissatisfied with the pleasures of life that we savor the truth, the wisdom, and the good news of your Word alone.
Let it be said of my church as it was said of the church in Berea, that we received your Word “with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day”!
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
