These next few prayers will use Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of his temple in 1 Kings 8 as an outline to pray for your church.
Please pray aloud:
O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.
You have shown your faithfulness to my church in the past when you… [Take a moment to tell God how he has distinctly shown his faithfulness to your church.]
The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you, O God, neither can the earth you have made, how much less the church our hands have built! I have seen your greatness when you… [Take a moment to tell God how you have seen his greatness in your life.]
Though I am only a servant, I ask that you would give attention to my prayer and plea for mercy, Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that I pray in your presence this day, and open your eyes toward my church, this place of which you said, ‘My Name shall be there.’ I ask that you would give my church… [Take a moment to ask God for what your church distinctly and specifically desires.]
Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people, hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
