Use this prayer to pray to bless the janitors and volunteers who are willing and able to clean your church.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Sovereign Lord, I come to you now praying for the people who are willing and able to clean my church. Thank you, God, for calling caretakers to my church for this noble task. Forgive us, God, if we ever overlook these custodians or treat their work with contempt! Give everyone in my church a heart to serve, whether they hold a microphone or a broom handle.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Sovereign Lord, I come to you now praying for the people who are willing and able to clean my church.

Your Word says the parts of your Church that are seen as weak or less honorable are indispensable, and that you give special honor for the parts of your body that lack it. These words could not be more true than for the people who scrub our toilets or empty our trash or mop our floors. Forgive us, God, if we ever overlook these custodians or treat their work with contempt! Help everyone in my church notice their efforts, not just when something is dirty.

When you gave your instructions to Israel, you set aside different clans to care for the furnishings, coverings, and frames of the tabernacle. Thank you God for calling caretakers to my church for no less noble a task. Bless them for their service. Renew a dedicated heart within them to cry out like Nehemiah saying, “We will not neglect the house of our God!”

Give everyone in my church a heart to serve, whether they hold a microphone or a broom handle.
—Pray for Your Church

Protect them from slips or injury as they do manual labor. Help them see the monotony of their task as an opportunity for faithfulness, and attention to detail as worship. Protect them also from being like Martha and missing time with Jesus because they were so focused on their task.

Give everyone in my church a heart to serve, whether they hold a microphone or a broom handle. Help us to take on the very nature of a servant, to make ourselves last, to humble ourselves. Until we all follow the example of Jesus set for us by washing feet.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
