Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 1 Corinthians 1:20
Quick Prayer
Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, today I confess that so many of us in my church doubt your wisdom. In theory we may agree that you are wise, but our practice declares otherwise. We have doubted your wisdom with our finances, our relationships, and our conduct, and the wisdom of this age has clouded our judgment.
Forgive us, gracious Lord. And change us, so much so, that others describe us as a people who trust in you with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding, who submit to you in all our ways.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, today I confess that so many of us in my church doubt your wisdom.
In theory, we may agree that you are wise, that your understanding has no limit, but our practice declares otherwise. Indeed, we honor you with our lips, but our hearts are far from you—
We doubt your wisdom when we horde our wealth for ourselves. We rationalize away giving you a tenth of our increase because we believe that we know better how to spend our finances.
We doubt your wisdom when we fail to love our enemies, or when we fail to show mercy to the oppressed. We justify that our time or our resources are better spent elsewhere, longing for safety more than compassion.
We doubt your wisdom when we compromise our morals and gratify the desires of our flesh.
…counsel us, Wonderful Counselor.

In a thousand different ways, Lord, our lives have declared your wisdom is not to be trusted. The wisdom of this age has clouded our judgment.
Forgive us, Lord.
And as you forgive us, counsel us, our Wonderful Counselor. Teach us, Good Teacher. Instruct your students with wisdom from above once again, and make foolish the wisdom of this world! Fill our hearts with awe at your wisdom that laid the earth’s foundation, that numbers our hair, that names the stars.
Then let that understanding move us to action—actions that declare the depths and riches of your wisdom and knowledge and unsearchable ways. Change us, so much so, that others describe us as people who trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding; who submit to you in all our ways.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
