Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, fill my church with wonder of Palm Sunday. Give us the same intrigue and curiosity that stirred in Jerusalem when your Son rode through the city gates, subverting all expectations. Unsettle us until we ask—

Who is this King of glory without a stallion? He’s a servant, he isn’t served. This is humiliation, not glory. He rides a beast of burden—and for who? A crowd of the unchaste, the unclean, the unattractive, and the unwise?

Who is this King of glory without an army? He should be escorted by the height of power, but he’s defenseless. This is weakness, not might. Surely suffering awaits someone so vulnerable.

…fill my church with wonder this Palm Sunday.

—Pray for Your Church

Who is this King of glory without trumpets? He should be hailed with the fanfare of choirs and eloquent speeches. This is a mob, not pageantry. The best he can garner is an impromptu parade of bystanders using makeshift props?

He is the King of glory?

Yes, Father, use the questions of Palm Sunday to prepare my church to remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of your Son with a newfound depth and power. Until we are changed into his likeness.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Some of the Scripture used in today’s prayer:
Matthew 21:1-11, Psalm 24:8-10
