Use this prayer for your church to discover, understand, and live out God’s unique vision for your ministry.
Quick Prayer
Please pray aloud: Only wise God, I come to you now asking you to show my church your distinct vision for us.
You have called every church everywhere to build your kingdom, but our calling is for such a time as this. In such a place as this. With such a people as this. So what is your vision for my church, God? What are your plans? Would you show us?
Like you promised in your Word, let our ears hear a voice behind us saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please pray aloud: Only wise God, I come to you now asking you to show my church your distinct vision for us.
Our city has a distinct culture and people with distinct needs. Our church, too, is a unique assembly of unique people and gifts. And while you have called every church everywhere to build your kingdom, our calling is for such a time as this. In such a place as this. With such a people as this.
And there’s so much we could do, God! There is no lack of needs for the lacking resources we have to give. We don’t want to be reckless or directionless, building half–finished towers. Neither do we want to labor in vain, building what will not last.
We set aside our ideas because we want your ideas, Lord. Come, by your Spirit, and reveal what you have in mind. What is your vision for my church, God? What are your plans? Would you show us?
[Take some time to sit in the stillness and let the Lord speak to you by his Spirit.]
Great Shepherd, help us to recognize your voice. Does not your Word say our ears will hear a voice behind us saying, “This is the way, walk in it”? If we do not see a clear vision like Cornelius or hear your voice like Samuel, then let your Spirit prompt our hearts like Simeon. But do not let us perish without your vision, God. Determine our steps.
What is your vision for my church, God?

Whenever you reveal your plans for us, let the leadership share in the vision so it’s not owned by one person. I ask that every leader would be united in purpose, submitting to your plans. Remove any selfish ambition or impure motives by your bond of peace, and keep us from quarreling over tactics or strategy.
Finally, Lord, when our leaders communicate your vision with the church and the community, help them to do so with excellence. Help them to make the vision plain, as your Word commends, that the entire church may be established in understanding and united in action. All for the good and growth and glory of your kingdom!
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
