…he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Sovereign Lord, I come to you now interceding for the retirees in my church. As they enjoy the fruits of their labor, remind them of the promises in your Word that speak to this season of their life, Lord—from their money to their sense of identity to their health. Fill them with a desire to leave a legacy for you more than a legacy for themselves, and bring to completion the good work you began in them.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Sovereign Lord, I come to you now interceding for the retirees in my church.

Specifically, God, I lift up… [name any retired people on your heart.]  As they enjoy the fruits of their labor, remind them of the promises in your Word that speak to this season of their life, Lord—

If they feel a loss of identity leaving the workforce, remind them that their life is hidden with Christ, that they are crucified with him, and that you chose them to be a part of your royal, holy nation.

If they worry they won’t have enough money saved for their standard of living, remind them that you will supply for their every need according to the riches of your glory in Christ Jesus. Keep them free from the love of money that they may be content with what they have, knowing you will never leave or forsake them.

Bring to completion the good work you began in the retired people in my church, Lord.
—Pray for Your Church

If they fear a loss of health, remind them to fear not for you are with them and you will strengthen them and help them and uphold them with your righteous right hand.

If they struggle with boredom God, remind them that as long as they live in the body there is fruitful labor for them. Mobilize them to be even more involved in my church, God. To give of their time, their energy, their wealth, for your legacy more than their own.

Finally, God, keep the retirees in my church from any bitterness towards younger generations. Remind them to be open handed if the former way of doing things change. And bring to completion the good work you began in the retired people in my church, Lord.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
