Use this prayer to help the grieving in your church find comfort and healing through the resurrection of Jesus.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:

God of all Comfort, I come to you now interceding for those who are grieving in my church. Comfort them as your Word promises you will do. Come by your Holy Spirit and remind the bereaved, right now, that though they grieve, they do not grieve without hope, for Christ has risen from the grave.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Specifically, Lord, I pray for…

Take a moment to name anyone in your church who you know is grieving right now…

We mourn because death is not your design for us, O Lord. You made us to live and have life in your name, but death came to all through sin. Thank you for sending your Son to remove the curse of sin from us by dying on the cross and rising from the grave.

Come by your Holy Spirit and remind the bereaved, right now, that they do not grieve without hope, for they have faith in Christ. Do as you promise and let the brokenhearted know you are near them. Bless those who mourn, Father.

We mourn because death is not your design for us, O Lord.
—Pray for Your Church

Remind them of Christ’s empty tomb. Remind them that he is the Resurrection and the Life and that, even though we die, those who believe shall live again. Remind them they will see those they love again, when they are gathered at your throne where there will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Finally, God, use the people in my church to bring peace to the grief–stricken. Help us to fulfill the command to mourn with those who mourn. Be present through our presence, our words, and our help. That healing and joy may come to them once again.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
