…the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” Matthew 21:10
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, a day the Church remembers Jesus’ triumphal entry to prepare our hearts for Easter. Use this prayer to help your church celebrate Palm Sunday with the same faith and joy of those who first experienced it.
Quick Prayer
Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, I lift up this week’s Palm Sunday celebration at my church. Forgive us if we’re ever dismissive of this triumphant day when your Son rode into your holy city! Make our praise worthy of the exclamation marks we see in the Palm Sunday accounts! Let the stones be silent because we are filled with the same unrestrained faith that shouts, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please pray aloud:
Heavenly Father, I lift up this week’s Palm Sunday celebration at my church. Forgive us if we’re ever dismissive of this triumphant day when your Son rode into your holy city!
Fill us with wonder at the story, how his majesty came to Jerusalem with the same humility he came to Bethlehem—not in a royal chariot, but on a borrowed donkey. Not escorted by soldiers and dignitaries, but a crowd of common people. Not on a road laid with rose petals, but tattered cloaks and tree branches. If the throne you chose for him was a cross, why should his procession be conventional?

Let my church be stirred like the city was stirred that day, Lord. Make our praise worthy of the exclamation marks we see in the Palm Sunday accounts! Let the stones be silent because we are filled with the same unrestrained faith that shouts,
“Save, Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
And Lord, use the events of this Sunday to turn my church’s attention to your Son’s next triumphal entry, when he comes again in glory. Not as a servant, but as a conquering King. Not to suffer, but to reign. Make us “a people prepared for the Lord.”
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Some of the Scripture used in today’s prayer: Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40, John 12:12-19, Luke 1:17
