…[we are] born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3

Use this prayer to help your church celebrate Easter with the same joy and wonder felt by those who first witnessed the resurrection.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:

I come to you now crying out for my church’s Easter celebration, God. Make this Easter just as joyful as the first Easter, God! Give us the same outburst of joy Mary felt when she shouted “I have seen the Lord!” Give us the same burning heart of Cleopas as he walked with your risen Son to Emmaus. Give us the same faith of John, who stepped into the empty tomb and believed.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Lord, I come to you now crying out for my church’s celebration of this triumphant day.

Remind us that we are no less the recipients of this good news than those who first witnessed it. The same power that raised Christ from the dead empowers us! The same Spirit that emptied the grave is at work within us! The same promise of eternal life is given to us! So make our Easter celebration just as unrestrained and elated, Lord!

For those who will gather with us that have heard the story before, overwhelm them with the news of Easter again. Remind them their joy is not in traditions or cultural celebrations, but in your victory over death. For those who will gather with us that have never heard the story before, or those who know of the story but have never heard the story told in detail, surprise them with the news of Easter.

Make this Easter just as joyful as the first Easter, God!
—Pray for Your Church

On a practical level, I lift up the details of our Easter service, God—I pray the musicians are relaxed and worshipful this Easter morning. I pray the tech teams are attentive and their equipment is free from any malfunction. I pray the greeters are cheerful and proactive. I pray the pastor is filled to overflowing with your Holy Spirit and that your Word is clearly proclaimed through him. No detail is too trivial for your attention, God, so we commit every aspect of this Sunday to you and your care, that nothing will rob you of your glory on this great day.

Blessed are you, O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to your great mercy, we are born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
