Full Prayer
This is part III of a set of prayers using Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of his temple in 1 Kings 8 as an outline to pray for your church.
Please pray aloud:
When anyone who is of a different ethnic background or country comes into our church because of your name—for they will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm—when they come and pray, then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Do whatever they ask of you, so that all the people of earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people. May they know that this house bears your Name, O God.
Whenever our people travel to a far off land, remind them that you are present with them there just as you are here, in this church. Hear from heaven and answer their prayer and uphold their cause.
When anyone sins against you—for there is no one who does not sin—enters this church, comfort them with your forgiveness. Change their hearts, and lead them to repentance to say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’. And when they turn back to you with all their heart and soul and pray to you in this church, then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. Forgive those who sin against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and show them mercy; for these are your people, God!
Heavenly Father, may your eyes be open to your servants’ plea in this place, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord. And in front of all the people of Israel he lifted his hands toward heaven.
