Use this prayer from our four-part Each One Reach One series to help your church develop God’s heart for the lost.

Quick Prayer

Please pray aloud:
Forgive us for our apathy towards your mission, God. We’re so lulled by the pleasures and pursuits of this world that we’ve forgotten eternity hangs in the balance. We’ve been so focused on being pleasant towards others that we’ve forgotten every soul is at stake.

Oh, give my church your heart for the lost, Lord!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:
God, I come to you now asking you to give my church your heart for the lost!

Forgive us for our apathy towards your mission, God. We’re so lulled by the pleasures and pursuits of this world that we’ve forgotten eternity hangs in the balance. We’ve been so focused on being pleasant towards others that we’ve forgotten every soul is at stake.

What other word could you use to warn us of our condition? You’ve called us lost. Perishing. Dead. Blind. Alone.

What other word could you use to warn us of the consequences? You spoke of wrath. Anguish. Torment. Eternity.

What other words could you use to demonstrate your concern? You spoke of longing. Weeping. Pleading. Love.

So great is your heart and your hurt for us that you even gave your life to save us. Oh, give my church your heart for the lost, Lord!

Oh, give my church your heart for the lost, Lord!
—Pray for Your Church

It might be, Lord, that the sheer numbers overwhelm us. We see billions on a planet, millions in a country, thousands in our city, and hundreds in our contact list, that we’re paralyzed to inaction. To this end, God, give us your eyes to see the one. Not to think of who we can’t reach, but to be moved by who we can. To do for one what we wish we could do for all.

Make us like the banquet host seeing the one empty chair. Like Jesus seeing the one woman in the crowd. Like a father seeing the one missing son. Like a shepherd seeing the one missing sheep. Like a widow seeing the one missing coin. Move by your Spirit now, Lord, and prompt every heart in my church to ask—Who is the one I can reach Lord?

Give my church your heart for the lost, Lord!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
