Center my church on Christ, O Lord!
Your Word instructs us to fix our eyes on Jesus, and to remain in him just as he remains in us. And while these commands are good and life–giving, they require an ongoing diligence and intentionality that is so easy to lose.
So God, begin by showing my church the ways we have centered ourselves on things other than Jesus. Convict us, Holy Spirit, with our own selfishness. Our pettiness. Even our idolatry. Where have we loved ritual more than the relationship? Where have we become lukewarm? Where have we drifted from our first love and become enamored with things other than him? Father, how have we elevated secondary things over the primacy of Jesus? How have we complicated the simple abiding with your precious Son? How do we trust in talent or resources instead of Christ’s wisdom or power? Show us, Lord.

Then, forgive us by Christ alone, that our hearts may be enthralled with Christ alone.
As you forgive us, renew us with a vigor to follow Jesus ever closer. May our church be a picture of the crowds of Galilee gathered around him. Pressing in to see him, hear him, speak with him, even touch him!
And then, let it be evident to anyone who interacts with the people of my church, that we have been with Jesus. As your Word says, let Christ lead us in triumphal procession, and use us to spread the fragrance of him everywhere. Make us the sweet aroma of Christ to all.
