Full Prayer

Please pray aloud:

Oh, what joy this day brings, Lord! This day where your Son rose to life and conquered the power of sin and the grave. This day where our hope and strength and faith begin. This day of our Lord’s resurrection. So come, Heavenly Father, make our Easter worship service fitting for your Son’s resurrection.

I pray for all the details of our Easter worship, Lord—

Protect all of the lights, the microphones, the soundboards, and the computers running the service. Keep them free from glitches and user errors. Not for our glory, God. But that nothing during our service would distract or detract from your glory, O God.

I pray for the musicians playing during our Easter worship. Give them a heart of worship as they play. Let their service honor you and inspire others to do the same, as worship leaders. Fill them to overflowing with your Holy Spirit, and keep them from all pride as they praise you.

Heavenly Father, make our Easter worship service fitting for your Son’s resurrection!
—Pray for Your Church

I pray for all of the other volunteers. Those who greet, those who make coffee, those who hand out bulletins, those who serve behind computers. Let their service be nothing but excellent and enthusiastic. I pray that their attitudes reflect the peace and joy the empty tomb brings us, O King.

I pray for the children who come to church, God. Open their little hearts to believe in a deep and real way that Jesus is risen from the dead, and that it changes everything for them. Even so, Lord, let their childlike faith inspire our own. As trite as it may sound, I pray the kids sleep well and eat well before worship so they and their parents can be attentive during the service.

I pray for the sermon, O God. Use my pastor to boldly and clearly proclaim the good news that Christ is risen from the dead. Let the truth of the resurrection they preach give faith to those who have yet to believe and strengthen the faith of those who do believe. Let us hear the same fervor in their voice that the disciples heard after Mary saw our risen Lord!

Finally, I pray for those we’re inviting, God. I pray you would soften their hearts to receive our invitation. I pray that they would come. And as they come, I pray they feel at ease as they park their car, as they enter our doors, as they meet new people, and as they worship. I pray you would cut through all of their anxious or doubtful thoughts and help them consider the power of the resurrection in their own life.

And as our worship ends, I pray that your Word would be fulfilled among us. That we would know Christ better, and the power of his resurrection, which is the same power at work within us. That our church is resurrected to new life, even as your Son is resurrected in all glory and power.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
