25 Prayers to Christmas
A couple of years ago I decided to pray through the Apostle Luke’s account of Jesus’ birth. As I worked my way through the familiar text, I kept on stopping at words and phrases that prompted some type of prayer appropriate for the Christmas season.
Like praying about my fears this season when the angel tells Mary, “do not be afraid” in Luke 1:30.
Or praying for humility before God with Elizabeth who asks, “who am I?” that the Lord should come to me in Luke 1:43.
Or asking for “the glory of the Lord” to shine in this season like it did with the shepherds in Luke 2:9.
I quickly realized I could find 25 different prayers in the text and lay them out in chronological order for an Advent devotional. I plotted things out and wrote it up for my congregation to use that year, and the response was overwhelming. Again and again I heard from people that the story came alive to them, that they identified with the characters more than ever, and their Christmas season was more prayerful than ever.
Given the response, I decided this devotional was an idea that could bless the entire church. So I published 25 Prayers to Christmas as a short (and affordable!) devotional for you or your church. And since Advent is approaching, I thought I’d make it available here on Pray for Your Church.

May your Christmas be filled with prayer.
